Sam and Simon's theme was fairytale and simple with a jade green colour scheme.
Sam and Simon's Wedding
Simon proposed to Sam by the river Henley while enjoying a picnic. "He produced Morris the Monkey which I'd bought him on our first Valentines Day, with a ribbon tied around its neck with a ring on it. I burst into tears and said yes immediately, then Simon produced a bottle of Champagne and 2 glasses."
A friend had recommended Coltsford Mill to them and as soon as they saw it, they knew it was the perfect wedding venue. "The grounds were absolutely stunning with lakes, waterfalls and bridges, ideal for beautiful photographs. There was a bridal cottage too which was the icing on the cake!"
Sam wore a Pronovias ivory, strapless, fitted top covered in crystals and diamantes, it had rouching across the stomach and a fuller skirt with a slight train. With the dress, Sam wore a beautiful tiara handmade by a friend of a friend and a cathedral veil, borrowed from another friend. Her shoes were from Next, an ivory sandal with a heel and jewel detail.
The adult bridesmaids wore matching jade green dresses which Sam designed herself. They were strapless with a rouched bust and knee length skirt. They were made from satin with organza over the top. The younger bridesmaids wore ivory satin dresses with an ivory organza skirt and a layer of jade green organza inbetween. All the bridesmaids dresses were handmade by a fbaulous dressmaker in Purley. Sam's flowergirl wore an ivory satin dress from BHS with butterfly detail.
After a lot of speculation, Sam decided on daffodils for the bouquets, as it was a spring wedding and the colour scheme was green and the yellow was beautiful against it.
Simon and his groomsmen wore dark grey suits with tails hired from Richard Mark in Wallington. They all wore an ivory silk waistcoat, Simon wore an ivory taffetta cravat and the bestman, ushers and fathers wore jade green taffetta cravats to match the bridemaids.
Ruscus and fairy lights were wound around the beams and voile with fairy lights were behind the cake table. There was a long top table and 9 round tables. "The Watermill Barn was so beautiful that we didn't want to detract from it too much." For the table centrepieces there were tall, narrow vases with 5 pink gerberas and bear grass with diamantes threaded on. The top table had a beautiful arrangement of pink flowers and green foliage. A very good friend of Sam's did all the flower arrangements.
Simon and Sam both love Marks and Spencer Percy Pigs, so they gave everyone percy piglets in small, ivory, organza bags. Sam designed their table plan on an ornate white mirror which looked stunning. The place names were on painted white hearts hung on the back of the chairs. Their table names were places they had been together and had a photograph of the place on the back of the name card. Their wedding cake was made of 3 tiers iced in ivory and placed on a cake stand. The bottom layer was lemon sponge, the middle tier was victoria sponge and the top layer was chocolate sponge. It was decorated with jade green organza ribbon and a string of green crystals. "It tasted delicious!"
For Sam, the best part of the day was "sharing such a special day with so many family and friends and seeing so many happy faces throughout" We asked if there was anything they had learnt that was an important tip for future wedding couples; "Take time to enjoy the wedding preparations and ensure that the groom is involved as much as possible. Don't let your families take over or stress you out as it is your day. Choose a good photographer as these will be the photographs you treasure. Finally, on the day itself enjoy every second and take time to absorb everything that is going on around you as it whizzes by so, so fast!"
